Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using the HF Data Library (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

The HF Data Library provides free, research-grade, high-frequency U.S. equity data for academic and research purposes. The Service is operated by Ahmed Elkassabgi at the University of Central Arkansas.

3. Data License

All data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). You may use, share, adapt, and distribute the data for any purpose, including commercial use, provided you give appropriate credit as described on the citation page.

4. Account Registration

To download data or use the API, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate, current, and complete information (name, email, institution, country, role)
• Verify your email address before downloading data
• Maintain the security of your password and API key
• Not share your credentials with others
• Notify me immediately if you suspect unauthorized access

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use automated systems to download data in ways that circumvent rate limits
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, servers, or infrastructure
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service
• Redistribute the data without attribution (required by CC BY 4.0)
• Misrepresent the source of the data
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

6. No Warranty

The data is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. While every effort is made to ensure accuracy, the Service makes no representations about completeness, accuracy, reliability, or suitability for any particular purpose. Users are responsible for validating data for their own research. Errors should be reported via the contact page.

7. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Ahmed Elkassabgi, the University of Central Arkansas, or affiliated parties be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

8. Account Termination

Accounts may be suspended or terminated for violations of these Terms. Users may delete their accounts at any time by contacting [email protected]. Upon deletion, personal information is removed from the database; anonymized usage statistics may be retained.

9. Changes to the Service

The Service may change over time. Data is updated weekly. Methodology, cleaning procedures, and variable definitions may be revised and will be documented in the changelog.

10. Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the newsletter and on the site. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
